About

Public response to The Case against Traffic Lights for Newsnight prompted its author, Martin Cassini, to start this campaign. The aim is to replace our current system of control and coercion with one based on courtesy and commonsense.

Far from being a narrow campaign that represents a single interest group, FiT ROADS represents the right of all road-users - children and blind pedestrians as well as drivers in their 4x4s - to enjoy safe travel on civilised roads.

We oppose regulation which contrives conflict, dictates our behaviour and deprives us of choice. If policymakers harnessed human nature instead of hampering it, they might see most of our congestion and road safety problems disappear.

Martin is an award-winning TV producer, a graduate from Wadham College, Oxford, and a member of the International Advisory Council of the Kyoto World Cities New Mobility Program. He writes regularly for Traffic Technology International, and divides his time between London and Devon.
